Is There Any Truth to Feng Shui?

The Archangels Weigh In

I first heard of Feng Shui from my mother-in-law, who had several ideas and items regarding decorating her home that tied into it.  For example, she had a ceramic frog with a coin in its mouth near her front door to invite more money into her life, a dragon on her back patio (not really sure what its purpose was supposed to be, although I’m a fan of dragons), and she used or discarded certain colors in certain areas of her house.

Feng Shui originated in the Chinese culture, and its goal is to establish energetic balance in a particular area.  It takes into consideration such things as nature, the elements, colors, symbols, and other things that are supposed to act together to create an atmosphere of tranquility, most often, but can sometimes target particular areas in life, such as wealth, health, success, and other things.

I had a question recently from one of my followers asking for the Angels’ input regarding this practice, so I asked.  Their response follows.

Question:  What’s the deal with Feng Shui when it comes to decorating and setting up a home?  Is it worth looking into, and does it make any impact?

Answer:

As you know, everything is made of energy, and everything has its own energetic vibration.  For non-living things, the energy tends to be fairly static, that is, it doesn’t often change.  It is possible that it changes, especially if it is affected by outside energy in some way, but it is not likely.  Living things’ energetic vibrations usually change, depending on the energy surrounding them.  Some things, as well as people, are more static than others, because they are either mostly isolated, or in the case of people, while some people have learned to stabilize their energy through self-care and energetic practices, others’ energy fluctuates greatly depending on the energy with which they react and to which they are exposed.

The premise of Feng Shui is worthy of consideration, as it considers the impact energy can have and acknowledges that energy can affect virtually everything in a variety of ways.  Feng Shui recognizes that colors, shapes, materials all have energy, and that energy can affect people as well as the energy of other things.  The energy of colors is generally stable and static, as is the energy of shapes and the unliving materials used in decoration.

We admire that energy is acknowledged as important and that it affect most things.  Those who are fairly knowledgeable about energy can often anticipate the energetic reactions between non-living items.  The weakness of Feng Shui is that, although it considers how the energy of things affects people in general, it is limited in determining how it affects each individual.  Can color, shape, material affect people?  Absolutely, it can.  However, each thing affects all individuals differently, because the energetic vibration of an individual varies from person to person, and it is never stable or static, and the background of each person differs, which also affects their reactions to everything.

For example, let us consider colors.  For many people, certain colors calm them.  For example, pastel colors, especially blues and greens often have a relaxing effect for many.  However, someone’s vibration may not be conducive to such an effect, and if there is something in the history of the person’s experience that triggers bad memories associated with these colors, the color’s vibration, once it reacts with the person’s vibration, will not have the same effect.

As more and more people become more sensitive to energy and vibration, it will become easier to anticipate energetic reactions.  The most effective Feng Shui practitioners are those who are sensitive to energy and learn to distinguish which combinations and reactions are best for the people they are serving regarding whatever outcome they hope to achieve.  Those who follow a set procedure or inflexible guidelines that do not take into consideration the energy and energetic reactions of others are less effective.

Something to keep in mind is that there is no “one size fits all” remedy.  There cannot be, because everyone’s energy not only differs, it fluctuations.  Ideally, if someone hires a person to guide them in Feng Shui, they should be very actively involved in what colors, pieces, etc. are incorporated, and regardless of what the practitioner knows and has studied, the person they are helping should have the final say, always, because if something does not react well with their energy, it will not be a good fit, regardless of theory and practices.

Lastly, we will add that Feng Shui can be helpful for some people, but it is not a cure-all for anyone.  It cannot make you rich, whole, healed, happy, successful, or at peace on its own.  The person must always be an active participant in such things.  Feng Shui is good for some, but not for all, and while it is helpful to consider vibrations, it is not enough if energetic reactions are not also considered, and that varies from person to person.  Also, if a person believes in its power, it is more helpful for them than for someone who does not believe in it.  Again, that depends on the individual.

Final Thoughts

I’ll be moving to a new house in a few months.  My goal is that everything inside it will either be functional and used, or it will bring me joy.  While I respect and don’t mind considering Feng Shui principles, I’m pretty sensitive to all energy, my own included, so in the end, I’ll decorate without keeping Feng Shui strictly in mind, because I know what I like, and I recognize how other energy reacts with mine and makes me feel.  I’ve never been one to acquiesce to principles, theories, fads, fashions, etc., at least not since I was a teenager!  If an interior decorator, Feng Shui or otherwise, tried to talk me into including an item or color that didn’t resonate with me, I wouldn’t use it, despite what it’s believed to be able to do for me or the reasoning behind including it.  I like what I like.  I don’t like what I don’t like.  Pretty simple for me.  I gave up trying to be “cool” by following others’ guidelines a long time ago.

The human mind is a powerful thing, to be sure.  So, I have no problem believing that how a person feels about whether or not Feng Shui or anything else works and how effective it is can have everything to do with the outcome experienced. That might be a positive thing for some.  They might find confidence or purpose due to their beliefs regarding Feng Shui or other practices.  Hey, if it works for you, great, all the more power to you!

Blessings, all.
